'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting final moments of Swansea's stunning fightback win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a fan's glasses after the post-goal scrum.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative shot from outside the box, and his teammate immediately converted the deflection before racing off toward the home end to celebrate, with supporters congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result sealed an incredible comeback given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 midway through the second half. In the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator shouting out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The result secured a upcoming fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the same stage of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that range," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right defensive wing after the team changed tactics. That meant competing with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the Manchester squad who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the basics and basic skills, they can just do it over and over again," he explains. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they know how to control and take the sting out of a game. You can feel you're doing well and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a strong mentality and focus just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a fans' favourite across two seasons at his former club and has swiftly achieved similar status in Wales. At Orient he joined forces once more with his former manager, who previously gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at a League One side from United. Then came a loan at League Two the Manchester club, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without much intensity. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adapt rapidly."

National Team Success

His progress reflects that maturation for club and country, shining for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including both legs encounters against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he manipulates the ball and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

It has been an incredible journey for the player from the local area in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who was raised observing his parent, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for the Red Devils came in Central Asia in 2019, a Europa League trip to the host city, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was sealed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "This represented a extended travel and it was freezing," he recalls, grinning. "The days leading up, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "It was relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I believed I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's nicknamed team minibus, a small coach driven by academy staff, the drivers, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, another squad member, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and behind the wheel. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would blend in with followers on London's Central line after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
