Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
