Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations show the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
A senior representative commented the incident left him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
